Welcome to the DESK online learning community!
Our goal is to provide high-quality online learning while fostering mutual respect, responsibility, and support. For this to happen, both student and teacher (and support parent/guardian) must work collaboratively to make any learning relationship effective, efficient, and worthwhile. Here are our shared expectations:
Learner Expectations:
The learner is ultimately responsible for their success in any online learning course. Online learning offers independence and flexibility, but it also requires planning, organization, and personal accountability. The online learner must endeavour to:
- Provide evidence of regular active engagement with the learning process throughout the course.
- Communicate with the teacher for support as required.
- Practice academic integrity while completing all assignments, tests, projects, etc. Learners are required to do their own work and not take credit for the work of others.
- Demonstrate respect towards other students and staff members.
Teacher Expectations:
Our teachers, clerical staff, and administration are here to support you in achieving your academic goals. Our teachers, specifically, will always endeavour to:
- Respond to all requests for support in a timely fashion.
- Provide instruction through engaging lessons and timely, constructive feedback as required.
- Provide timely assessment and reporting using transparent criteria including rubrics and learning updates.
- Demonstrate respect and inclusivity towards a welcoming learning environment for all learners.
Parent/Guardian Expectations:
Parents/guardians often play an important supportive role for many online learners. Parents/guardians of online learners will endeavour to:
- Provide accurate registration and communication information.
- Respond to DESK staff inquiries in a timely manner.
- Ensure their learner has appropriate technology and reliable internet access.
- Communicate with DESK staff as required.
