Our Elementary Learning Philosophy
We have designed our K-9 program with attention to the specific learning needs of each age grouping. Our K-3 program has unique characteristics that often involve a combination of digital and physical paper-based learning resources while our Grade 4-9 program offers a typical online learning (OL) experience.
Kindergarten-Grade 3 Program
Presently, our K-1 program is designed as mainly paper-based delivery models while the Grades 2-3 program is delivered primarily online (i.e., blending of paper-based resources and D2L/Brightspace, our digital learning management system).
NOTE: We are in the middle of moving our programs to a new digital learning management system for a late spring launch. As a result, our current K-3 program will evolve towards a more blended learning (paper/digital) version. Please contact us should you have specific questions about our K-3 program and its new iteration.
Regardless of the approach or platform, all subject materials and learning resources provided reflect all BC Ministry of Education guidelines and curriculum.

- Students have access to several approved online programs and subscriptions.
- Dedicated, caring teachers are committed to ensuring a positive learning experience.
- Regular support and guidance is provided along with ongoing, personalized feedback and communication.
- A family can apply to access up to $600 of available funding for curricular related lessons (third-party services).
Grade 4-9 Program
All Elev8 DESK Grades 4-9 courses are delivered online. Students use their home computer and internet to access D2L/Brightspace, the safe, secure, and password-protected learning platform that houses all subject-area course learning guides, assignment/project work, curriculum-aligned resources, links, and activities. All student work and feedback is submitted/shared electronically via drop-boxes built into each course.
NOTE: Students must have ready access to a computer, the internet, a printer, and a scanner.

K-9 Student Learning Funds
Fulltime Elev8 DESK students in Grades K-9 who have a current student learning plan, are actively engaged in their curriculum, and showing steady progress in their learning, may access up to $600 from a Student Learning Fund (SLF).
Any use of the SLF must be pre-approved by your child’s teacher and support the current Student Learning Plan (SLP) in connection with the curriculum and learner interests and needs.
SLFs are ideal in assisting students to meet curricular goals in non-core areas such as Fine Arts, Health & Physical Education, Career Education, and Applied Skills. The intention of these funds is to support ongoing instructional components for activities that cannot be delivered easily by Elev8 DESK programming. The funds are aimed primarily at practical, hands-on types of lessons in music, dance, art, soccer, swimming, gymnastics, horse-back riding, skiing, woodworking, and so on.
NOTE: Student Learning Funds cannot be used to subsidize equipment costs, uniforms, single-use passes (for example, for gym or skiing).
Parents and third party service providers must complete the required Pre-Authorization/Permission Form and Electronic Funds Transfer Application. As per provincial guidelines, Elev8 DESK is required to pay third party service providers directly, and may not pay and/or reimburse parents and/or guardians.
