Our Online Learning Expertise

DESK (Distance Education School of the Kootenays) is one of the oldest public distance learning schools operating in British Columbia. DESK, now known as Elev8 DESK Online Learning, offers unique, caring, and flexible learning opportunities for students residing anywhere within the province of British Columbia. Elev8 closely adheres to the British Columbia Ministry of Education Curriculum and its teachers and staff work closely with learner families to support and guide the learning that happens at home.

Parents and an online learning (OL) teacher work together to co-create a Student Learning Plan (SLP) that identifies any specific learning needs, outcomes, and resources to help guide and shape each child’s learning for the year. No two SLPs are the same; each one is individually designed to reflect the needs in relation to their strengths, interests, and learning styles of each student. At the same time, SLPs are designed to meet the robust BC curriculum. The SLP is considered a 'living document' because it is flexible and can be revisited or changed as often as necessary throughout the year. 

Our Elev8 Elementary K-9 Program also offers several online subscriptions to full-time students.

In our Elev8 Secondary (10-12) Program, students may enroll in our online courses either full-time or part-time. Each of our offered online courses has its own outline which is provided prior to enrolment so that potential students are familiar with the responsibilities and expectations.
