Summer is for… Studying?

Summer Learning

As the end of June approaches, most students and teachers are preparing for more typical summer pursuits, but some of us know that summer can be the best time for… studying. We are two Elev8 DESK teachers who will soon be leading learning through the summer months. For a few moments, we sit and sip our tea, laughing away the normal stresses of school year completion. We are reflecting about what it means to flip the calendar from the busyness of June to the balance of July.

We both enjoy offering responsive 1:1 support for students within the spaciousness that summer brings. Learners may be seeking summer coursework for upgrading, completing prerequisites, or getting ahead for graduation timing. Some students have extenuating circumstances or specialized programs that require it. Still others may see summertime as an opportunity for intense focus on a subject that is more difficult for them, or that calls their interest to explore with greater depth.

Whatever the circumstance, online learning offers inherent benefits as a flexible context to prioritize learning while still making time for summer fun. In contrast to scheduled summer programs, Elev8 DESK offers the additional benefits of individualized timing and flexible pacing; if learners want to extend their summer learning past the end of August, they still have the remainder of the year to wrap up it up. However, if support for a more disciplined approach is needed, we will also work with them to design a structured plan. Sandals and sunhats may be casual, but serious progress can still be made!

Do you feel called to learning this summer? Please see the dates and summer semester information below and contact Elev8/DESK at 1.800.663.4613 or desk.registration@sd8.bc.ca to get started!

June 27 – July 1 – Summer semester changeover period. New course registrations received during this period will not be activated until July 2.

July 2 – Official start of the summer semester. Any new course registrations will be activated. Please note that some courses may have new instructors assigned.

IMPORTANT: Students are strongly encouraged to check their courses regularly for announcements regarding teacher availability and support during the summer months. Summer schedules may vary from teacher to teacher, so reviewing course announcements will help you stay informed and plan accordingly.

We wish you a wonderful summer, whether you are learning with us, or taking a pause.
